Eight women were detained in an operation targeting alleged supporters of the Gülen Movement in Mersin. According to a statement by Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, DEM Party MP for Kocaeli, two of the women detained were pregnant. One of the women also had an eight-month-old baby and was taken to breastfeed her baby approximately every hour and a half during her time in custody. Gergerlioğlu stated that the women’s health conditions were not taken into consideration during their detention and that their nutritional needs were not adequately met.
