Case Summary

Businessman Hazım Sesli was arrested as part of investigations targeting the Gülen movement. Following the trial, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Currently held in İzmir Buca Prison, Sesli applied to the court for release after completing the legally required period for conditional release, but his request was unlawfully rejected. In the first application, the court postponed his release by 10 months, and in the second by 11 months. Member of Parliament Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu repeatedly brought the case to public attention, stating, “Hazım Sesli is being held hostage in prison, with court rulings being ignored.” Gergerlioğlu emphasized that the actions of the penal institutions and the prosecution clearly violate judicial independence.
