Case Summary
Abdullah Tırpan, a 72-year-old inmate held in Tekirdağ Prison, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison on the grounds of alleged affiliation with the Gülen movement. After the approval of his conviction, he was sent to prison on February 26. Since his imprisonment, due to his advanced age and illnesses, he has had to visit the hospital multiple times. On November 3, the inmate, who lost consciousness due to shortness of breath and continuous vomiting, was hospitalized but later sent back to prison after receiving treatment. Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu, who stated that many seriously ill inmates have recently died in prisons and that human rights violations continue, brought the case to the agenda of the parliament. The inmate suffers from diabetes, has unhealed wounds on his feet, experiences lung infections, is dependent on care, and is unable even to meet his toilet needs. He was sentenced for reasons such as depositing money into Bank Asya, subscribing to certain magazines and newspapers, sending his children to closed private schools, and making religious donations and sacrificial offerings. The health of the inmate, whose life is in danger, continues to deteriorate day by day.
