The situation of 11-month-old baby Murat Efe, who is held with his mother in Edirne L-Type Prison, has caused deep concern among the public. Having entered prison while still an infant, Murat Efe was seriously injured in recent days. While resting on his mother’s bunk, he struck the metal bars of the bed in the ward and was left breathless. According to the family, the child’s chin hit the metal railing; after losing his breath and bleeding heavily, he was taken only to the prison infirmary and was not referred to a hospital. The family reported that the baby had severe injuries and signs of infection on his face, his eyes turned bloodshot, and the necessary medical intervention was delayed. His father stated that, despite the child being covered in blood from the head, the prison administration did not take him to a hospital, but only to the prison infirmary. The family of the detainee expressed concern for both the mother and the baby. The case once again highlighted the unsuitability of prison conditions for babies and children.
