Lawyer Aytaç Ünsal has not been released despite completing the required term of his prison sentence. The prisoner, who is held in Edirne Prison, has served the portion of his 10-year and 6-month sentence that must be spent in prison, yet he continues to be detained. Ünsal’s father stated that his son has been imprisoned for 8.5 years and became eligible for conditional release four months ago, but his release has been blocked on what he described as unfounded grounds. He also said that a visitation ban had been imposed, preventing him from seeing his son even during the holiday. Ünsal had previously drawn public attention due to health problems and prolonged hunger strikes during his time in prison.
