Case Summary

A 62-year-old sick prisoner in Kırşehir Prison was not released despite having completed his sentence. The prisoner, who has been incarcerated for 31 years, had his conditional release postponed for another six months for the second time by a unanimous decision of the Administrative and Observation Board, on the grounds that he “has not severed ties with the organization.” The prisoner suffers from several chronic illnesses, including an aortic heart valve replacement, heart failure, hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma, and anal fistula, and he must take medication continuously. He is trying to make his voice heard, stating that his situation violates the execution laws, that his health condition is deteriorating, and that his file should be reviewed again. Emphasizing the principle of “equality before the law,” the prisoner said that he has not been given a fair evaluation because he is Kurdish.
