Case Summary

The release of Seyda Şimşek, a prisoner held in Diyarbakır, has been repeatedly postponed despite the completion of her sentence. Şimşek has been incarcerated for many years, and on the date she was supposed to be released, the Prison Administration and Observation Board delayed the process for nine months, claiming that “the exam she was said to have attended could not be found in official records.” Şimşek has been in prison since 1995, and her release was expected on 30 November 2025. However, the Board issued a decision stating that she was “not of good conduct,” and her release was postponed to 27 August 2026, the date of the next board review. Her family stated that the repeated postponement of her release constitutes an act of injustice and oppression, and they called for her immediate release.
