Case Summary

Selçuk Kozağaçlı, a lawyer and the Honorary President of the Progressive Lawyers Association, was arrested in 2017 on allegations of membership in an organization and was sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison. He has remained imprisoned since then. After serving eight years of his sentence, Kozağaçlı was granted conditional release in April 2025 upon completing the required portion of his prison term; however, following an objection filed on the same day, he was re-arrested and sent back to prison. While being held at Marmara Closed Prison, the Prison Administration and Observation Board issued an assessment stating that he is “not in a condition to reintegrate into society.” The Board assigned Kozağaçlı a development score of 28.5 and ruled that he could not be considered “of good conduct” because he failed to meet the required threshold score of 40. The Board scheduled the next evaluation for June 30, 2026.
