Journalist Ali Barış Kurt, held in Maltepe Prison, applied for conditional release after completing the custodial portion of his sentence. The Prison Administration and Observation Board postponed his release for six months, alleging that he was “not remorseful” and that he “posed a risk of harming others.” Through his family, the prisoner reported that he has no disciplinary sanctions and that, despite this, the board obstructed his release with arbitrary and unjustified reasons. He stated that he will continue to stand for the truth under all circumstances. Kurt was arrested on 8 February 2025 on accusations of “making propaganda for an organization” due to his journalistic work and social media posts.
