Case Summary

Cafer Ongun was dismissed from his profession by decree (KHK) and arrested in March 2017. After a period of release following his initial detention, he was sentenced by the Kütahya 2nd High Criminal Court to 6 years and 3 months in prison on charges of “association membership, use of ByLock, and depositing money in Bank Asya.” Following the approval of the verdict, he was returned to prison in November 2023. The 51-year-old inmate suffered a heart attack about one and a half months ago and underwent surgery requiring intensive medical intervention. After the operation, he was treated in intensive care, during which he suffered a stroke due to a blood clot, leaving him paralyzed. He remained in intensive care for a month and passed away on September 21 after this treatment process. Ongun was the fifth KHK detainee to die in prison this month.
