Case Summary

Attorney Süleyman Yıldırım, who was held in Denizli Prison, was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison on allegations of membership in the Gülen movement. He was taken into custody on 27 July 2025 to serve his sentence. Throughout his time in prison, he battled cancer. Due to delays in his medical treatment, his condition progressed to a critical stage. He was diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer, and during this period, one of his legs had to be amputated. As his condition worsened further, a suspension of sentence was granted, and he was released while on his deathbed; however, it was already too late for effective treatment. After his release, Yıldırım was admitted to Izmir City Hospital, but his health deteriorated rapidly due to the delays experienced during imprisonment. He was intubated on 1 December, and his condition did not improve thereafter. Despite all medical interventions, he passed away on 9 December 2025.
