Case Summary
Mehmet Çataklı was detained 7 months ago as part of the investigation known as the “girls’ case” and was transferred to Marmara (Silivri) Prison. He was accused of paying the rent for the house where his daughter stayed, sending her allowances, and fulfilling parental responsibilities. His trial was ongoing and no judgment had yet been delivered. On 13 December 2025, Çataklı suffered a heart attack inside his ward. Prison staff alerted medical teams, and intervention was carried out; however, despite all efforts, he could not be saved. Çataklı had lost his mother 3 months earlier, and upon receiving the news at the time, he suffered a heart spasm and was hospitalized. He had been using medication for chronic heart conditions. During the post–15 July State of Emergency period, he had previously been arrested in Kocaeli and sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison. After serving 4.5 years, he was released in November 2020.
