International Conference | Echoes of Hate: Digital Communication, Populism and the Regulation of Hate Speech

Together with the Ghent University’s Human Rights Centre, we are organizing our 2nd International Conference on 15th December 2025. We kindly invite paper proposals for the conference, which explores the growing challenges of digital hate speech and its connection to hate crime and populist discourse.

The conference will critically examine:

  • The link between online hate speech and real-world violence
  • The role of populist rhetoric in fuelling polarization
  • Legal and policy responses to hate speech at national and EU levels.

We welcome interdisciplinary contributions from scholars, legal practitioners, policymakers, and civil society actors.

Abstracts (300–500 words) should be submitted by  20 September 2025 to conferentieugent2025@gmail.com .
