Case Summary

Uğur Öztaş, an 88-year-old inmate held in Menemen Prison, suffered a stroke. Öztaş, who was prosecuted on the grounds of alleged affiliation with the Gülen movement, is an educator and one of the founding administrators of Fatih College. Despite his advanced age and severe health problems, he continues to be kept in prison, and an infaz erteleme (postponement of sentence) is expected in his case. Member of Parliament Ö.F. Gergerlioğlu stated that the prisoner has been ill for a long time but has been neglected by the authorities. Öztaş, who is receiving intensive care treatment at İzmir City Hospital and is dependent on others for basic needs, remains in critical condition. His family is deeply concerned for his life.
