Case Summary
In its latest report on prisons, the Human Rights and Equality Institution of Türkiye (TİHEK) documented that the number of prisoners with disabilities exceeds the capacity of the wards they are held in, and that the toilets, bathrooms, and living spaces in these wards are not suitable for the needs of disabled inmates. According to the report, there are 10 prisoners with disabilities in Ordu Ünye M-Type Prison, 12 in İzmir Bergama M-Type Prison, 78 in Gaziantep L-Type Prison, and 6 physically disabled prisoners in Bolu T-Type Prison. In total, these four prisons hold 106 prisoners with disabilities. The report highlights that in some institutions, even the rooms designated for disabled prisoners fail to meet proper accessibility and living standards.
