SITUATION : Detailed information on the legal status is not available.

Case Summary

Yasin Kaya, an ailing prisoner held in Şırnak Type T Closed Prison, was once again denied transfer to the hospital after refusing to comply with the gendarmerie’s “slipper requirement.” In previous months, his access to medical care had already been obstructed under the same pretext. During the most recent attempt, prison guards demanded that he remove his shoes and wear slippers. When Kaya rejected this condition, the gendarmerie attempted to “negotiate” by insisting that he at least remove his shoelaces. Kaya also refused this, and as a result, his hospital transfer was cancelled. The prisoner’s right to access medical treatment is being systematically and openly violated. Although medical reports have confirmed that Kaya has kidney stones in both kidneys and requires surgery, he has been denied the operation for one year because he refused to comply with these impositions.
