Case Summary

Ayşe Solak, a 49-year-old mother of three held in Aydın E-Type Prison, continues to be kept behind bars despite being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Arrested during her post-surgery chemotherapy process, Solak’s health is reported to be deteriorating day by day. According to her relatives, the main accusations against her were having an account at Bank Asya, using the ByLock messaging app, and delivering food to students. Medical reports submitted to the Forensic Medicine Institute as part of her request for a sentence deferral are still pending, while her case has once again brought the plight of sick prisoners in Turkey into public debate. Convicted and sentenced to 6 years and 8 months in prison by the Court of Cassation, Solak continues to struggle for her freedom so she can undergo treatment outside prison.
