Zeynep Çoban, who is being held in Denizli Prison, was sentenced to 6 years and 10 months in prison in March 2020 following a trial conducted as part of investigations targeting the Gülen movement in İzmir. Çoban worked as a Qur’an teacher. In 2017, she was first taken into custody and later arrested. After seven months, she was released pending trial. Çoban was accused on the grounds of depositing money into Bank Asya, attending religious gatherings, reading the Qur’an during those gatherings, and her social media posts. Following the finalization of her conviction, she surrendered in February 2026 to begin serving her sentence. She was separated from her two children, leaving behind a 14-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son.
