Case Summary

Hatice Tekcan was tried as part of investigations targeting the Gülen movement and was sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison as a result of the trial. Following the finalization of her sentence, Tekcan was detained at her home in the Çarşamba district and, after the completion of legal procedures, was transferred to Çarşamba Prison to serve her sentence. It was reported that Tekcan has a 4-year-old daughter, who was separated from her mother following the detention process. Moments of Tekcan saying goodbye to her daughter while being taken for legal procedures were reflected in the public sphere and drew reactions. It was noted that the conviction was based on actions such as depositing money in Bank Asya, and that there are rulings by the European Court of Human Rights indicating that such actions do not constitute a criminal offense.
