Turkish journalist Ufuk Şanlı has launched a hunger strike to protest what he calls “unlawful practices” by prosecutors.
Şanlı, who was arrested on 11 July on allegations of acting as an informant for exiled investigative journalist Cevheri Güven, said he would continue his protest until an indictment is prepared.
The former Zaman reporter previously served seven years and six months in prison on terrorism charges linked to the Gülen movement, before being conditionally released in 2021.
In a letter published on 20 August, he accused prosecutors and pro-government media figures of using “baseless intelligence reports” to ruin his life and named specific judicial officials and journalists he described as “executioners of dignity.”
