Prisoners held in Gaziantep L-Type Prison reported that for the past two months they have had no access to hot water and have been forced to heat water under the sun in order to bathe.² They also stated that although the facility has a capacity of 1,200 people, nearly 3,000 prisoners are currently being held there. A similar situation was observed in the open prison, where 1,300 people are being held in a space designed for 600. It was further reported that toilets are in poor condition, a recent sewage overflow flooded the wards with dirty water, and that the wards are infested with insects. The prison administration has so far failed to provide a permanent solution to these problems. Prisoners are demanding that their basic needs be met.
