Case Summary

Sadık Hasan, who has been incarcerated for 30 years in Tekirdağ No. 1 F-Type High Security Closed Prison, was denied release by the Administrative and Observation Board on the grounds that he had “not severed his ties with the organization.” During his meeting with the board, Hasan stated that he had not committed the alleged crime and that he was only seeking his rights. Without presenting any concrete evidence, the board disregarded his good conduct based on the presumption of “not severing ties,” thereby subjecting him to de facto re-punishment. Having completed his sentence on January 9, Hasan’s release was postponed for six months because he refused to comply with the imposition of “expressing remorse.” The next release review is scheduled for October 9.¹
