Mehmet Emin Çam, 73 years old and held in Beşiri Type T Closed Penal Institution, suffered two heart attacks while in prison. Çam, who also suffers from kidney disease, has undergone two kidney surgeries and cataract surgery, has myopic astigmatism in his eyes, has completely lost hearing in his right ear, and struggles to walk due to partial paralysis on his left side.² Despite all these conditions, the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) issued a report stating that he is “fit to remain in prison.” His lawyers have filed multiple requests for postponement of his sentence, but these applications were rejected despite medical reports. Most recently, Çam applied to the Ministry of Justice to benefit from the “Presidential Pardon.” The prisoner and his concerned family are waiting for their request to be accepted this time.³
