Fatma Öztimur, held in Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, is imprisoned with her two young children, one of whom is 4 years old and autistic. Considering that prison life is challenging even for adults, the hardships faced by Öztimur while raising two children inside prison have drawn significant concern. One child is 20 months old and the other only 4 years old, making prison conditions extremely difficult for both. The condition of her autistic child is deteriorating, as he urgently needs special education that cannot be provided in prison. During a visit, MP Ömer Faruk Gergerlioğlu emphasized that Öztimur is “living a life akin to torture.” The Ministry of Justice is expected to implement legal reforms, especially for imprisoned mothers with children and sick prisoners, and to improve prison conditions accordingly.²
