Case Summary

Devrim Ayık, held in Antalya Type S Prison, is completely blind in his right eye and has 70% vision loss in his left eye, suffers from hearing loss, and has multiple chronic illnesses. Despite being officially recognized as 76% disabled, Ayık is not being released from prison. The prisoner was referred to the Medical Board of Antalya Training and Research Hospital. The hospital board concluded that “there is no need for a postponement of sentence execution.” Following this report, the prosecutor rejected Ayık’s request for a postponement of sentence without even referring the case to the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK). Ayık has applied to the Human Rights Review Commission (İHİK) regarding this unlawful procedure.2
