Besra Erol, 67, who is held in Elazığ Women’s Closed Prison, suffers from chronic illnesses including thyroid nodules that carry a cancer risk, herniated disc, inguinal hernia, sciatica, goiter, hypertension, and glaucoma. Having undergone three herniated disc surgeries, Erol struggles to walk and experiences constant pain. Her pain continues, and due to diabetes, she faces the risk of losing her eyesight, while enduring serious hardships under prison conditions.² Although Erol met the conditions for conditional release and appeared before the Administrative and Observation Board, the board postponed her release for six months, citing her responses to questions such as “Are you remorseful?” and “Why are you staying with political prisoners?” The issue was brought to the parliamentary agenda with allegations that Erol’s right to life is being violated.3
