Case Summary

Prisoners held in Erzurum H-Type Prison have reportedly been experiencing health problems because the meals provided by the prison contain excessive amounts of salt. According to relatives who visited the prisoners, detainees and convicts have been unable to consume the food prepared by the institution due to its high salt content. In order to make the meals edible, prisoners reportedly soak the food in extra water and wash it repeatedly. As a result of these conditions, many prisoners have reportedly developed hypertension and begun using medication. Prisoners and their families stated that prison conditions have been worsening steadily and called for immediate improvements.
