Case Summary

Abdülmenaf Aytaç, who is being held in Menemen Prison, has not been released despite suffering from severe health problems and possessing a medical disability report certifying 65% disability. The health condition of the 71-year-old prisoner is reportedly deteriorating further under prison conditions. Aytaç suffers from thyroid cancer and prostate disease. He also has chronic illnesses including hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol, requiring regular medication. While previously in prison, he suffered a heart attack and later underwent angioplasty. A medical report issued in 2025 by the Adli Tıp Kurumu also confirmed his disability status. According to his lawyer, Aytaç is no longer capable of meeting his daily needs on his own. Despite all these serious medical conditions, he continues to be held in prison. Aytaç was first detained in 2014 in Ağrı on allegations of “membership in an organization” and remained in prison for approximately one year. Following the trial, he was acquitted and released in 2015. However, after the Court of Cassation overturned the acquittal, the case was retried, and in 2023 he was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
