Case Summary
Hamdullah Aydemir, who has a 92% disability rating, was detained and sent to Erciş Prison despite his health condition. He had been prosecuted in 2015 on charges of “membership in an organization” and developed bladder cancer while in prison. After spending 9 years in prison, he had previously been released from Ankara Sincan Prison through a postponement of sentence enforcement on the grounds that his health condition prevented him from continuing to live under prison conditions. During the period he spent outside prison, he underwent chemotherapy treatment. Following the expiration of the postponement period, the prisoner recently received official notification ordering him to return to prison. His lawyer submitted a new request for postponement of sentence enforcement by presenting his medical condition; however, the request was rejected. After a detention order was issued against him, the prisoner was taken from his residence by police officers and transferred back to prison.
