Case Summary
Musa Sertkal, a seriously ill prisoner held in Kandıra Prison, is being treated in the prison infirmary instead of being transferred to a hospital. Despite his health problems, the prisoner, who has been incarcerated for 21 years, has not been released. The prisoner suffers from stomach and digestive system disorders and has a mass in his intestines. Due to the progression of his illnesses, he has reportedly reached a point where he is unable to meet even his basic daily needs. Despite this condition, he is often not transferred to a hospital and is instead treated in the prison infirmary. It was also reported that when he is taken to hospital, the practices implemented there result in violations of his right to health. The prisoner has been held in a single-person cell for the past 10 years. His relatives stated that despite submitting numerous petitions, he has not been transferred to Van Prison. As a result, they have to travel for long hours to attend prison visits, and the existing health problems of family members make this situation even more difficult for them.
