Case Summary

İlyas Ayaz, who is currently held in Van Prison, was arrested after being taken into custody on June 3, 2024, when he was wounded during an armed clash in Van. Due to a piece of shrapnel lodged in his body, his health condition has been deteriorating day by day. Ayaz, who has been in prison for approximately 1.5 years, frequently suffers from seizures and loss of consciousness and is repeatedly taken to the hospital. Doctors administer medication and then return him to prison; however, this treatment has proven insufficient. At his most recent court hearing, he lost consciousness and was unable to present his defense, and for this reason the hearing was postponed. Despite the fact that his serious medical condition is documented in doctors’ reports, he has not been released. His family, who visited him in prison, stated that his health condition is very poor and emphasized that he should at least be allowed to receive treatment at home during the trial process.
