Case Summary
Severely ill prisoner Hakkı Gören remains incarcerated despite his critical health condition. Gören, who received a sentence of 15 years and 8 months, was arrested in 2018. After spending four years in Edirne Prison, he has been held at Adana Kürkçüler F-Type Closed Prison since 2022. Over the years following his imprisonment, his physical health progressively deteriorated. On 15 October 2025, a hospital report diagnosed him with Secondary Parkinsonism. The report stated that Gören’s condition was severe, that he was unable to meet his essential daily needs independently, that imprisonment was medically inappropriate, and that he could not sustain his life without the assistance of others. Despite these findings, prison authorities and judicial bodies rejected his requests for suspension of sentence. As of today, Gören continues to struggle with the effects of his progressive neurological illness. Although the course of the disease requires continuous care and medical support, his ongoing detention under prison conditions constitutes a violation of both his right to health and right to life.
