Ferah Oktan, who is being held in Edirne L-Type Prison, was arrested on August 10, 2024. In September 2025, she was diagnosed with stage-4 breast cancer. Due to the late diagnosis, the cancer had already metastasized to other parts of her body. Because of wounds in her mouth, she is unable to eat properly. Following chemotherapy treatment, she lost her hair, and due to severe pain in the lymph nodes under her arms, she cannot lift her arms, wash her clothes, or meet her daily needs in prison on her own. On January 12, 2026, the Council of Forensic Medicine (Adli Tıp Kurumu) issued a medical report stating that Oktan’s sentence should be postponed for six months. The report noted that she was undergoing chemotherapy treatment and that surgical intervention was planned for the future. It stated that she could not be evaluated under Article 16/2 of Law No. 5275 on the Execution of Sentences and Security Measures, and therefore concluded that the postponement of the execution of her sentence for six months was appropriate. It was emphasized that this decision was taken unanimously. Despite this, instead of issuing a direct release order based on the forensic report, the Istanbul 23rd Heavy Penal Court sent the case file to the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay). As of this date, since the review process at the Court of Cassation has not been concluded, Oktan has not been released.
