Case Summary
Aydın Altığ, who is held in Kırşehir Prison, has been incarcerated for approximately 30 years. After completing the required term of his sentence, he was expected to be released on February 3, 2026. However, the Administrative and Observation Board of Kırşehir S-Type Prison postponed his release for six months, citing that he had “not shown remorse for the alleged offense.” During his time in prison, disciplinary penalties and his ideological stance were evaluated by the board, which concluded that he was not considered “well-behaved” (eligible for conditional release). According to information provided by his family, Altığ was not released because he refused to accept a requirement to express remorse as a condition for his release. His mother stated that throughout his imprisonment, Altığ had been transferred to various prisons in Erzurum, Diyarbakır (Amed), Çankırı, Çanakkale, and Adana. She emphasized that transferring prisoners to facilities far from their families weakens family ties and creates serious hardships. Reacting to the decision not to release her son despite the completion of his sentence, she stated that the practice causes both legal and humanitarian injustice.
