Case Summary

Journalist and writer Tuğba Tekerek was detained as part of the “My Family Is Safe” (“Ailem Güvende”) operation targeting LGBTİ+ organisations and human rights defenders. Tekerek was detained in İstanbul and subsequently transferred to Ankara. The content cited as the basis for her detention was a news report on the Georgian elections published on the Kaos GL website on 26 October 2024. On 15 September 2026, she was arrested by the Ankara 6th Criminal Judgeship of Peace on charges of “violating the Law on Associations,” “facilitating the publication of obscene materials,” and “obscenity in places accessible to children.” The prisoner denied the charges, stating that she had worked as a journalist for 24 years, that the acts in question fell within the scope of journalistic activity, and that she had prepared only one news report for Kaos GL. Following the arrest decision, she was sent to Sincan Prison. She remains in pre-trial detention.
