Fatma Gök, whose sentence enforcement was postponed three years ago due to the need to care for her daughter with Down syndrome, was arrested and sent to prison after the postponement period expired. Her son was also arrested during operations carried out in July 2026 and sent to the same prison as his mother. Her 15-year-old daughter, who has Down syndrome and a heart condition, has been experiencing difficulties since her mother’s second arrest; she is unable to meet her personal needs independently and constantly looks at photographs of her mother. Despite there being no change in her daughter’s care and health needs, the postponement of Gök’s sentence enforcement was not extended. Gök’s son was also arrested as part of operations carried out in July 2026 and sent to the prison where his mother is being held. Gök is reportedly expected to remain in prison for approximately two more years.
