Report: Local and Global Purge

Abduction and Illegal Detention Cases Against Hizmet Movement Followers 2019

Since the beginning of 2016, twenty-three individuals, who were sought in investigations related to the Hizmet Movement, were abducted by unidentified men pretending to be undercover police officers. Some of these abducted Turkish citizens were released, but most of them are still missing. Authorities have remained silent, as there are no effective investigation into the abduction cases despite requests from families.

In addition to that, Turkey’s purge against the Hizmet Movement came into effect abroad and led to the deportation of over 100 individuals from foreign countries to Turkey, mostly with measures violating the international law.

This report, besides summarizing the available information over the abduction and illegal detention cases, reminds Turkish government and international institutions of what has to be done.
