EVENT
Press freedom is vital for democracy. But why? Because it ensures transparency, accountability, and the free exchange of ideas. Yet, around the world, journalists face growing threats. How can they report the truth when censorship, persecution, digital surveillance, and forced exile stand in their way?
Journalism is at a crossroads. While technology opens new doors for investigative reporting and global reach, it also brings new challenges. What happens when governments control digital spaces? How can journalists fight misinformation and cybersecurity threats while maintaining their independence? For exiled journalists, these challenges are even greater. How do they continue their work when forced to leave their home countries?
The Press Freedom Talks: Journalism in the Digital Age panel discussion will provide a platform to explore these urgent questions. We will bring together journalists, media experts, human rights advocates, and the public to discuss the state of press freedom, the role of exiled journalism, and the impact of digital tools on media resilience.
Interactive Workshop
How can journalists ensure their reporting is accurate, fair, and ethical? In this hands-on workshop, a journalist will share practical insights on creating objective news while respecting privacy, ethics, and journalistic integrity. Participants will then work in groups on real-world case studies, crafting their own news stories. Finally, the journalist will assess their reports, highlighting strengths and ethical challenges.
By sharing the experiences of exiled journalists and fostering open dialogue, we would like to contribute to the discussion on press freedom around the world and how to strengthen protections for independent media.
