Abdülhalik Orak, who is being held at Kırıkkale F-Type Closed Prison, is experiencing a steady deterioration in his health. Following a serious illness in 2023, the right side of his body became paralyzed. He has difficulty speaking and meeting his daily needs independently. Orak has suffered three episodes of gastric bleeding and also has asthma, diabetes, heart disease, reflux, advanced prostate disease, and cataracts. It was reported that he had developed brain atrophy due to the large number of medications he takes, with symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease subsequently emerging. His wife called for his release and requested that he be allowed to continue his treatment at home, stating that he can no longer walk, struggles even to eat, and is unable to meet his basic needs independently. She also reported that hospital transfers were not carried out frequently enough. According to his wife, Orak fell in prison and broke his arm but was not taken to hospital, resulting in the fracture healing improperly. She further stated that the family had been unable to visit him for approximately six years because he is being held in a prison far from their home. Orak was detained in Muş in 1993 and released approximately two years later. After being sentenced to life imprisonment in connection with the same case, he was detained again in 2006 while working in Istanbul.
