İbrahim Halil Al, who has soft tissue cancer and is being held at Edirne L-Type Closed Prison, was issued a report by the Forensic Medicine Institute (ATK) stating that he “can remain in prison.” The report assessed that, despite his illness, he was able to meet his own needs and that there were no grounds preventing him from remaining in prison. Al underwent cancer surgery at Dicle University Hospital approximately one and a half years ago and subsequently underwent three PET scans. After the Supreme Court of Appeals upheld his 8-year-and-9-month prison sentence, he was sent to prison on 19 March 2026. It was reported that his cancer-related examinations and treatment were not carried out in a timely manner after he entered prison, that the report on a CT scan he underwent was prepared approximately five months later, and that the report contained findings indicating progression of the disease. Al’s family submitted applications requesting that his medical procedures be expedited and that he be transferred to a prison closer to his family, who live in Şanlıurfa. However, five applications for his transfer to prisons in Şanlıurfa or Diyarbakır were rejected. An application submitted through CİMER also received a negative response. It was reported that Al’s family has to travel approximately 27 hours from Siverek to Edirne for prison visits.
